| What user names are acceptable here at SMART Online? |
| User names are important. When choosing a user name, somethings to think about are: Is the name offensive or could it be offensive to others? Is the name easy to remember? Does it reveal to much of my identity? Usernames which will not be allowed are those that imply an official role or a position with access to additional tools not available to a standard user, such as "Administrator", "Admin", "System operator", "Sysop", or "Moderator". "Rollback" or "Revert", "Edit war", "POV", etc. Editing processes, such as "Delete", "Upload", "Pagemove", or "Redirect". Usernames that give the impression that you intend to cause trouble, such as "Vandal", "Hacker", "H4X0E", "Spammer", "Troll", or "on Wheels". This includes names that may refer to malware, such as "Virus" or "Trojan horse". Usernames that imply bot accounts, potentially but not necessarily including "Bot", "Robot", "Script", "Initialize", "Automated", "Daemon", etc., unless the name is intended as a designated bot. Names that imply bot accounts may be blocked, and the user may be requested to contact an administrator to confirm that the account is indeed a bot account. Technical terms, such as visible toolbar buttons or namespaces. They may be confusing to inexperienced users or otherwise imply a capacity different than that of a normal user. User names with xx or characters in front of the name or behind are not allowed. Example xxSmithxx or 11Smith11 Using any odd characters in your user name such as ",!@,#,$,%,^,&,*,(,) or ' will not allow you to enter chat. If your user name has two names such as Dave S (with a space) this too can cause problems. But if you have a - or _ you will not have problems with our chat program. Examples of a good user names: JohnS, John-S,John_S Examples of a user names that will have problems: John S, "John". | How do I change my user name? |
| In order to change your user name, please use the
"Contact Us" link at the bottom of any page here on the message board and use the subject "other". Please note we only change user names when your real name is displayed and you have less than 10 posts. Other wise we do not change user names. IF you register again to get around this you will be subject to possibly being banned from our site. When contacting us please provide the following information: Current user name and email The reason why you wish your user name changed Once your user name has been changed you will need to use your new name as your login, your password remains the same. If you fail to use your new name you will get an error message. |

| What happens if I am moderated or banned? |
When a member is moderated their ability to post in real time is removed. Their posts go into a moderation cue and then are reviewed by the Admins before they are allowed to post providing they are recovery related. Generally this can take up to 24 hrs for the Admins to review them. The ability to use the chat system is removed along with private messages. When a member is banned they are banned from the use of the message board or the chat roomsl They can't read or participate. A Ban can be as little as one month up to lifetime. After the moderated or ban period is up the member can apply for reinstatement** by using the Contact US link at the bottom of the page and use the subject of "Other" ** In some cases a lifetime ban will be allowed to return but this is rare and is handled by a case by case basis. |
